The Olympic Games in Rome took place in 1960 and were the fourteenth modern Summer Olympic Games.

There would be no volcanic eruption this time to stop Rome from hosting the Olympic Games after such an event forced them to pass it on in 1908. They won the bid in 1955 from Lausanne with Budapest and Brussels bidding from Europe and Detroit from the United States. Mexico City also made a failed bid (their second), as did Tokyo - the first Asian city to bid for the Games ever.
